Water damage starts higher up than most people check
Leaves, seed pods, shingle grit and the odd tennis ball collect in a gutter run all year, and a Michigan property loses that debris to wind and rain more than any storm. Clearing it is the service: debris removal from every gutter, downspout flushing, and a full inspection of spout extensions and the system as a whole. Flushed, not just scooped
Scooping the leaves out of a gutter tells you the trough is clear. It does not tell you the downspout is. A blocked downspout backs water up into the gutter it just fed, and the gutter overflows anyway. Flushing every downspout with water proves the whole run is actually clear, from the roofline to wherever it drains out at the bottom, which is the part a visual check alone cannot confirm.

Why the inspection is the last step, not the first
A blocked gutter does its worst damage in winter
A gutter that overflows in October does not just make a mess of the flower bed below it. That water runs behind the fascia board instead of off the roof edge, and once a Michigan winter sets in, standing water in a place it was never meant to sit freezes and expands. Ice does not care whether it is inside a downspout or behind a board it was never supposed to reach, and a season or two of that is how a fascia board starts lifting away from the roofline.
Clearing the debris and flushing the downspouts fixes the immediate blockage. The inspection at the end is what catches the rest: a loose spout extension pointed the wrong way, a hanger that has started to pull free, a seam that is not sealed the way it should be. None of that shows up from the ground, and all of it is cheaper to fix in the fall than after a winter has made the problem worse.
What is included, and what is an add-on
Clearing the inside is the job. Brightening the outside is extra.
Tannin from leaves and the black streaking that builds on the outside face of a gutter run are a cosmetic issue, not a drainage one, so brightening that outer face is offered as a separate add-on for an additional fee rather than bundled into the base price of a cleaning. It keeps the core service, clearing what is actually blocking water from moving, affordable and focused on the part that protects the house.
